Jackson County is a county located in the U.S. state of Iowa. Our county seat is Maquoketa, Iowa. Its eastern border is formed by the Mississippi River. As of 2000, the population was 20,296. Its county seat is Maquoketa. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 650 sq miles. 636 sq mi of it is land and 14 sq miles of it (2.10%) is water. Our communities are located in deep wooded valleys, comfortably nestled in lowlands or feature panoramic views from unforgettable limestone bluffs that were sculpted by the meandering Mississippi River.
